Every year SigEp at UC San Diego awards 2 students for their commitment to their community, academic excellence, and leadership. While this award has historically been exclusive to male students, the Cal Rho chapter is proud to have made the progressive change from the Balanced Man Scholarship to the Balanced Person Scholarship in order to represent all student identities.
On February 29th SigEp had the opportunity to honor this year’s freshmen and sophomore finalists at the Balanced Person Scholarship banquet. These students were hand-selected from a group of over 70 strong applicants and were exceptionally representative of all of the principles the scholarship was founded on. These finalists include:
Melina Nicole Aryan, Jason Boerst, Kennedy Dofield, Ashton Domi, Connor Flanagan, William Gibbons, Nikki Grewal, Koosha Jadbabaei, Jiaming Li, Samantha Mak, Alexander Makhratchev, Ty Matson, Gil Pasternak, Daniel Ochoa Reyes, Isaac Chang
After empowering speeches from chapter advisor Troy Hanson and faculty fellow Robert Campbell, the winners were announced. The scholarship was awarded to Samantha Mak and Ty Matson and the runner up scholarship was awarded to William Gibbons and Kennedy Cofield.
Congratulations again to all of the Balanced Person Scholarship winners and finalists!
